TIME ALLOCATED: 70 Minutes
Lesson Objectives:
Students will be able to build and program a NXT robot to detect and move around objects.
Required Materials:
1 Computer Lab
Projector used for demonstrations
NXT Software used to program the NXT Robots
1 NXT Robot Kit per group (10 Kits) limited resources, students to share a robot between two
1 Computer per group (10 Groups) students will only require 1 computer per pair
5 Basic NXT Mazes extra resource created by teacher as an extra challenge to assess students and promote critical thinking and
problem solving.

Demonstrate a robot moving around the room, reacting stopping and
manoeuvring around obstacles

Introduce the ultrasonic sensor - Demonstrate how to
use and configure the ultrasonic sensor.

certain distance of an object, then
stopping.

In my lesson I provide plenty of opportunity demonstrate additional teaching strategies to cater for the needs of
students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. This includes further
demonstration, repeating instructions and/or shortening instructions of the activity when walking around.
