District Fall Rally Childrens Book Drive

The Goal:
The project of having a childrens book drive during the time of Fall Rally preparation is to inform the
members of what Fall Rally supports; Pediatric Trauma Program. By having this childrens book drive,
the District Board hopes to educate members on our Minor Emphasis: Pediatric Trauma Program and
how we, the members of CNH KIWINS can help the cause. The childrens book drive is geared towards providing comfort to pediatric patients during their hospital stay through books. All of the
donations will be going to local hospitals in each respective division.

The Competition:
It will be a friendly competition between divisions of who can acquire the most books per member, that
does not mean the largest amount of books in good condition but the largest amount of books in good
condition compared to their divisional membership. The winning division will get a decorated poster and
recognition at Fall Rally North. The reason why it is not an extravagant prize is because the childrens book
drive as simple as it sounds, is much more in terms of service and how members realize what they are doing really affects their community. Do not disclose the prize to general member as it will be a surprise at
Fall Rally North.

The Childrens Books:

The childrens books must be in good and fair condition.

If you know of a hospital in your area that accepts childrens books donations or you would prefer to donate to a particular hospital, please do so. The hospitals listed below have been contacted and accept
books in used and fair condition. When you donate to the hospital, please remember to call ahead. Please
dont be afraid to notify Carolyn Le if you require any help or if there are problems with the hospitals!

District Fall Rally Childrens Book Drive

Tips On Planning The Childrens Book Drive

Planning
Plan with your Divisional Leadership Team how you would like to advertise the childrens book
drive (flyers, divisional council meetings, etc)
Plan where you would like members to donate the books (Suggestion would be for individual
clubs to collect them during weekly meetings and then bring them to the divisional council
meeting)
Plan which day you will collect the books from all schools (such as Fundraiser Friday of Pediatric
Trauma Program Week), which day you will clean and check through the childrens books, and
make sure to report the total amount of books along with how many members there are in the
division to Carolyn Le by October 31st, 2015 at 11:59PM (Reminders will be sent)
Inform the Presidents about all the details of how the childrens book drive will happen
within your own division and to advertise the childrens book drive
Remember the books must be in good or fair condition.

Service Event

Individual clubs or the entire division can plan a day (most likely divisional council meetings if the
entire division is involved) where they will search through the collection of childrens books to
make sure that they have child appropriate content and there are not obvious
signs of marks
or torn pages
Bring sanitizing wipes in which you and your members can clean the front/back covers of the
childrens book and also any marks that can be removed with sanitizing wipes
Print out the CNH KIWINS Bookplate Designs so that they can be either glued or taped on the
back of the front cover in each book

Donating Process
Once all the childrens books are cleaned, place them in a large cardboard or plastic box
Call the hospital and arrange a date/time in which you can drop off the
boxes of childrens books
When you call them, make sure to give them your name and phone number so they can also
contact you and identify you when you arrive to donate the childrens books
It is also important to give your contact information in case of future events with the hospital and
also to explain why our organization, KIWINS has these types of drives as it is always good tell the
community about KIWINS and our core values
All of the hospitals listed on the first page have been contacted by either
Carolyn Le or her District Projects Committee Members
