AIDS ADVOCACY

Advocacy is speaking, acting, writing on behalf of the perceived

interests of a disadvantage group or person to promote, protect and
defend their welfare and social justice.
AIDS is a deadly disease. There is no cure for it, so prevention is
necessary. And for making the people aware AIDS advocacy is
necessary. The slogan for the AIDS advocacy programme was “Avoid
aids not Aids patient”.

ACTIVITIES PERFORMED
1. POSTER PASTING & DISTRIBUTION OF PAMPLETS
This was the starting activity. This was started at around 1 pm.
Posters were pasted on walls, pillars and pamplets were distributed
among the slum dwellers by visiting their houses and also
distributing pamplets to the people passing by.

2. GATHERING OF PEOPLE & MEETING

This was the beginning of our advocacy programme. Ladies, SHG
members, young girls, youth gathered at around 2:45 pm. Then the
meeting started. The number of females present was 25 and the no.
of male members present was about 15. The main purpose of the
meeting was to make them aware of AIDS, AIDS Adcocacy
 programme. In the meeting they were told about AIDS, four ways
by which it spreads and by which it does not spread, stigmas
regarding AIDS. Red ribbon was distributed among them.

3. MOVIE
One documentary movie provided to us by Jharkhand Aids Control
Society was shown to the people of the area present there.
As we saw that the residents were not free to discuss about the
topic so we decided to show movie to them separately
Movie was shown two times firstly, to the ladies, SHG members
and girls and in the next round to the youth boys and male
members. The main purpose of showing movie was to make their
concept more clear about AIDS.

4. QUESTION ANSWER ROUND

After showing the movie question answer round was conducted in
order to clear their doubts.

5. QUIZ
A quiz was conducted among the people present there. But the
response was poor. Very few were responding to our questions.

6. CONCLUDING CEREMONY
Some of the community leaders were also present like Mr. Gopal
Prasad, Mrs. Shushila Devi ( Head of Khusboo SHG ). They
encouraged our effort. Our group representative Vijendra Kumar
gave vote of thanks. It was wholly a group effort.
