Article Review

In the article of Dont teach Maths and Science in English written by Givonni
Tapang, students taught in their local language still rank high in Mathematics and
Science test by Rotary Club of Makati Olympia. Giovanni Tapang also says English
may be the language of science, but students learn and contribute more when
taught in their local tongue. In my opinion, it shows that students more easily
understand the terms in Science and Mathematics when taught in their local tongue
if a country wants to transform the subjects into real economic benefits.
Other than that, have critic of English as medium of instruction say that such
move is detrimental to both the quality of the learning process and the
development of critical thinking. This is because, most children in school come from
homes in which their mother tongue is the predominant language. From this
statement, it can prove that teaching Mathematics and Science in their mother
tongue for the predominant language to more understand and easy in study.
The education department also believes that teaching in the local language
will encourage children to stay in school rather than drop out. This is because
children nowadays naturally use the language they grow up with to understand the
world around them. In my opinion, no wonder when we see most of parent want the
children to be taught in their local tongue.
Moreover, the most local institutions show that pupils learn faster, better and
with enthusiasm when taught in their vernacular language. The test result in the
Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) show that countries
that rank high in mathematics and science is all have basic instruction in their local
tongue. In my opinion, it has proven that study in mother tongue generate the
children more successful. Thus we need dont teach Mathematics and Science in
English
Besides that, the challenge is worthwhile when teaching all subjects in the
local language not only enhances understanding for learners. But it also paves the
way for more potential for national development. The cultural and linguistic factors

need to help students make sense of new information. Hence, we know and can see
clearly that teaching science and mathematics in the vernacular is no barrier to
science excellence, and would result in better understanding of the world around us.

Argumentative essay

In this globalization era, language plays and importance in human life. Out of
all the language in the world, English is considered as the international language.
This is because, each of us especially must be given an equal chance to taste the
best education in this country. Each of the students has the right to enjoy the best
knowledge. Math is the language of nature. If you yearn to know how she operates,
you must speak her language that said by Dr. Jeff. However, the students have
their own choices both studying Mathematics and Science in English or mother
tongue. Both have their own advantages. But, I strongly disagree with this motion
that doesnt teach Mathematics and Science in English because can enhance your
critical thinking skills, get job in this competitive society, and can speak also writes
good English.
For one thing, If our Government says it wants students to be globalised,
then English has to be important, Ghani told The Star. I believe the teaching and
learning of Mathematics and Science in English not only pave the way for a
borderless society but also motivate students to learn more than one language
efficiently. Other than that, this language can enhance our critical thinking skills.
Although teach in local tongue is better easy but students who study in English will
struggle understanding the vocabulary that help to be a critical thinker. As the
conclusion, teach Mathematics and Science in English can help students that we
dont actually realize that we are making our mind shaper than before.
On the other hand, teach Mathematics and Science in English is going to
make a world of difference in the marketability of our future graduates but it will
bring a lot of changes in the confidence of our graduates. So, the students are easy
to find job in this competitive society. Every boss is looking for qualified, talented,
smart and confident employees. For example if you apply for a high class job and
when you go for the interview, obviously as I mentioned above with fluent English.

As the conclusion, you can't get a pretty good job or a promotion without knowing
proper English.
Last but not least, teach Mathematics and Science in English of being able to
speak and write good English is we will gain respect from people around you. In
addition, most websites which use scientific and mathematical matters are crated
with English as the main medium of communication. This respect comes naturally
especially to those who can really speak and write good English. If you speak good
English, it shows that you have the ability to ask a lot of deadly and critical
questions. As the conclusion, very importances teach Mathematics and Science in
English than local tongue. No matter how excellent our result is, if you dont speak
their language, you will always miss the opportunities.
In a nutshell, we totally disagree that dont teach Mathematics and Science in
English because we cannot enhance your critical thinking skills, get job in this
competitive society, and not speak and writes good in English. It is not wrong to
love our language. However, we have to be realistic about how the world looks at
us. We must know where we stand in this world. We must know our ranking. If we
believe that we have given so much to this world, I dont mind if Math and Science
are taught in Malay. However, if we believe that we have not shared enough with
the rest of the world and we believe that we are still a student who has to learn a
lot, then Math and Science should be taught in English. Thus, I hope Ministry of
Education officials should continue teaches this way by organization campaign
about the benefits of importance English for success in life.

Reflection

AssalamuaIaikum w.b.t. Praise for Rabbul izzah creator of the universe, I can
also accomplish the tasks of English Language Proficiency l (WAJ 3102) on this
semester. Before I continue my reflection for this course work, I would like to wish
thank Madam Rahimah bt Packeer Mohamed for providing guidance and giving me
the opportunity to complete the task on the subject of English Language Proficiency.
Appreciation and sincere thanks to my fellow friends that always helps me to solve
my problems to complete the course work properly and thoroughly.
When I was given the assignment title to learn more about this article, I never
feel burdened but I feel very happy that I be granted the article title will benefit a lot
to me. For me, this course work is suitable for us to do because its cord the teaching
profession is a profession which is what will we do in the future. As the saying goes
do not know then do not love. We need to recognize and embrace this English
subject as much as possible so that we can carry it well into the future. Indeed, this
has been my complete assignments according to what was ordered. During got this
assignment, I was very pleased to have the opportunity to increase my knowledge.
Throughout perform this task, the challenges, problems and advantages I have
found.
This essay was a bit challenging for me. I had some difficulties collecting the
ideas. I thought the topic was too hard because I didnt know what to write an essay.
I fared poorly as I did not understand what is required for an argumentative essay

and I had no idea what to write. The other reason was I didnt know much about the
do not teach Math and Science in English and power point that hinder learning or
not? I think I should have been more aware about the topic, and this would have
helped. Among the challenges and obstacles I encounter when trying to set up my
assignment is less clear with the tasks to be performed. For me is difficult to find
the main idea and supporting idea by the article that given with bag. . Therefore, I
and my friends members meet with the lecturer to get a clearer explanation of this
assignment.
In addition, other obstacles while completing this task is running out of time.
This is so because, too busy with the program held at the college and complete
assignments for other subjects. But I have to manage the time as best as possible
so that the assignments will be completed by the deadline set. Furthermore, I did
not have enough reference material to complete this task properly. But this problem
is not a very heavy burden to delay this task. We share references with other
partners and also search internet to help me find the thesis statement, the
supporting idea in the article and also make argumentative essay by the title in the
article. Thus, we were able to exchange knowledge and opinions with each other. To
me this is just a small challenge I faced with the need to be wise as an excellent
teacher in the future.
Among the advantages that I have got all my assignments are beginning to
realize that how important and how should we understand argumentative essay.
Before this I honestly do not care about this because he felt that was not related to
me. But now I feel I need to deep about this course because I have will support this
English in the future. Many benefits study English for example can enhance your
critical thinking skills, get job in this competitive society, and can speak also writes
good English. In addition, in this work we derive how the application can be
associated with example and fact from someone to proven the sentences that we
talk about. When I started writing the essay, I struggled a bit, but later, I had a good
structure. Each of the body paragraphs had different examples supporting my
argument. And I liked my conclusion. It had few solutions and I strongly expressed
my thinking about the teach Math and Science in English

Finally, I am waiting and now I can say thank God in my word and my other
members because can successfully do the subjects of English Language Proficiency.
I hope that our mentor, Madam Rahimah bt Packeer Mohamed satisfied with my
work and other friends. This is because, in order to apply the knowledge I acquired
while performing duties at the present time as a student. I hope in the future soon,
we will be a successful educator in the eyes of the education sector to form race
children and produce excellent human capital. If I have one more chance to write
another argumentative essay, I will research more about the topic to get more ideas
about the topic. I think it is very important to be fully aware of the topic to write a
good argumentative essay. I would say that after attempting both the writing
assignments, it has benefitted my essay writing skills and gave me a better
understanding towards writing argumentative essays.
