Instructions for Using your Calculator

TI 82, 83 and 84
One-Variable Statistics Calculations (Mean, Standard Deviation and 5-Number Summary)
a) Press STAT and press Enter for EDIT. Enter data into list 1: type a data value, then ENTER,
continue until all data is input.
b) If there is already data in the list(s) you plan to use, press STAT, and then 4 to select
the CLRLIST option. Specify the list you want to clear (2nd 1 for L1), and press ENTER.
Then go back to STAT and EDIT.
c) Once your data has been entered into L1, press STAT, press the right arrow to display
the CALC screen. Option 1 is 1-Var Stats, press 1 and ENTER to display statistics

a) To display the correlation coefficient, you must first make sure your calculators
diagnostics are turned on. Press 2nd 0 for CATALOG and scroll down to the
DiagnosticOn command. Press ENTER twice.
b) Enter your data into L1 (X values) and L2 (Y values). Press STAT, press the right arrow to
display the CALC screen. Press 2 or scroll down with your arrow key to 2 and enter for 2-Var
Stats. Hit Enter to display these summary statistics: x

For linear regression, Press STAT, press the right arrow to display the CALC screen. Press 4 or
use your arrow down key to select 4 LinReg(ax+b) and press Enter to display the correlation
coefficient (r ) and equation of the regression line. (Note: if you type your data into lists other
than 1 and 2 you need to specify the lists used. For example if you use lists 3 and 4 input
LinReg(ax+b) L3,L4 ).
