Guidelines for earning an Outstanding Citizenship Award in a Trimester:
Middle school students will earn a work habit and citizenship grade from each core and specialty class. Work habit grades will be
based on effort, timeliness of work, turning in homework, class participation and preparedness for class. Citizenship marks will be
based on overall behavior in class as stated in the Eagle Expectations and the middle school classroom management policy. The
following criteria will be used for the Outstanding Citizenship Award:
Students must earn 9 out of 10 E grades in citizenship.

CLOSED CAMPUS
Red Hill has a closed-campus policy to ensure the safety of our students. Students may not leave the school grounds during the
regular school day without being signed out at the school office by an authorized adult. Should the student return prior to the end
of the school schedule, he/she must report to the school office to be signed in by a parent or adult guardian.
Parents should send a note to the classroom teacher to notify the teacher in advance when a student will be leaving school
early.
Parents must report to the school office to sign out their child. To avoid classroom disruption, parents should NOT go directly
to the classroom to pick-up their child. The office will call the classroom teacher to send the student to the office.
All students arriving before 8:00 a.m. will be signed in to Daycare. Daycare rates apply. Students may not be on campus
unsupervised (Refer to Arrival or Daycare).
Elementary students (Grades K-5) remaining on campus after 3:00 p.m. will be signed in to Daycare. Daycare rates apply
(Refer to Daycare).
Middle School students (Grades 6-8) remaining on campus after 3:15 p.m. will be signed in to Daycare and Daycare rates

COMMUNICATION
Communication is a top priority at Red Hill. Parents should always feel free to contact the classroom teacher
with questions or concerns regarding student progress. Should a concern or problem arise, please contact the
person involved directly before discussing it with administration or any other person. Should the issue not be
25

satisfactorily resolved, please contact the Principal to schedule a conference. This model of communication is outlined in Matthew
18, and fosters mutual respect, trust, and accountability. The goal of communication is to address and resolve problems and
concerns directly without creating additional ill feelings and mistrust.
Various methods of communication at Red Hill are as follows:
Telephone Calls: Teachers may be contacted between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. each day through the school office. During school
hours, the office will connect phone calls directly to the teachers voicemail so parents may leave a message. Teachers will return
calls during a preparation period or after school. Please DO NOT call the classroom extensions directly as calls disrupt
instruction. Calls will be returned by the end of the next school day.
E-mail: Teachers and Staff may be contacted via e-mail. E-mail addresses can be located through the school website at
www.redhillschool.org or by calling the school office.
Weekly Newsletters: Every Monday (or the first day of the week), the office will post a classroom newsletter on the school
website. These should be posted at home and referred to daily to compare with the student Agenda. These newsletters will
include the weekly Bible Memory Verse, spelling words, daily assignments, pending tests and assignments, school activities
reminders, and planned activities for the near future.
Weekly Reminder: Every Monday (or the first day of the week), the office will email the Weekly Reminders to the family email
address. This email will contain pertinent information about upcoming events.
Student Agenda (Grades 1-5)/iPad Calendars (Grades 6-8): The Agenda serves as a valuable daily communication tool.
Assignments and important information will be recorded daily in each class. Parents are to review the Agenda and sign in the
appropriate space. Parents should write notes to the classroom teacher directly in the Agenda and should check for notes from the
teacher. The Study Skills grade on the student report card (Grades 1-5) includes an Agenda grade for neatness, accuracy, and
completeness (Refer to Agenda). Middle School Students will record assignments on their iPads.
Weekly Progress Reports: Weekly reports may be sent home or requested each week for the following reasons:
Scoring below 70% in any subject
Two or more missing assignments in any one class
Needed improvement in Citizenship or Work Habits.
RenWeb: RHLS uses a data base management software called RenWeb to compile student information such as family account
records, grades, attendance, and announcements. To view information, parents and students may log on to www.renweb.com. Our
school identification is RHLS-CA. To create a private password, follow the prompts. The password access will enable one to view
personal information. This helpful tool facilitates school-home communication. Information will be updated in a timely manner.
Parents are encouraged to review their childs information frequently.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Refer to Conferences.
Office Telephone: Office phones are not available for student use except for emergency situations. Forgotten homework,
transportation arrangements, parent signatures or sports uniforms are not considered emergency situations.
Classroom telephones are not for student use.
CONFERENCES
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled in the fall to discuss student progress and goal setting with the homeroom
teacher. Parents should make every effort to attend the conference, as they are designed to promote partnership
between the parent and the teacher. The parents, teacher, and/or principal may request additional conferences
whenever the need may arise.
CONFISCATED ITEMS/ELECTRONIC DEVICES
With the exception of Middle School iPads, electronic devices of any kind are not allowed on campus during school hours. These
include but are not limited to the following: Ipods, MP3 players, CD players, electronic video games, beepers, and lasers. These
devices, if brought on campus, must be checked in to the school office when the student arrives to school. The student may
retrieve them at dismissal.
Students may bring a cell phone to school for safety reasons provided the phone is stored in the students backpack and not
seen or heard while on campus. Phones taken out of the backpack will be confiscated. Red Hill Lutheran School is not
responsible for lost, missing, or damaged items.
26

Objects necessary for a class activity must be accompanied by a written note from the appropriate teacher and may require
approval by the principal. Red Hill Lutheran School is not responsible for lost, missing, or damaged items.
No personal play equipment or toys may be brought to school without permission from the classroom teacher or Daycare staff.
Electronic devices brought to school and not checked-in to the school office will be confiscated. Confiscated items can only
be retrieved from the school office by a parent/guardian. Unclaimed confiscated items will be discarded on the last day of
school.
CONTENT STANDARDS
The California Content Standards and CA Common Core Standards provide detailed guidelines on what students should learn
during their respective grade level. The teachers at Red Hill Lutheran School are thoroughly familiar with their grade level content
standards to ensure that they are taught during the course of the school year. All new textbooks that are purchased are on the stateapproved list of curriculum. The Standards are posted on the California Department of Educations websites at www.cde.ca.org
and www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/.
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
The curriculum is comprised of a variety of leading publishers approved by the state of California that provide students with an
exciting and comprehensive scope and sequence that meet the Content Standards (See Content Standards). Thematic units that
emphasize meaningful hands-on activities are important components of the curriculum. In addition, effective communication
skills in the areas of speaking and writing are a major emphasis. Our primary grades (K-2) focus on phonemic awareness as a key
element in learning to read. All subjects are taught from a Christian perspective and are integrated with Biblical truths and
principles. Instruction emphasizes exploration and application to real-life experiences.
In addition to the core classes of Math, History/Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts/Reading, we also offer the following
Specialty Classes:
Computer Science: Our extensive computer lab hosting 26 networked computers provides each student with the
opportunity for hands-on learning instruction. Multi-media production and the application of a variety of leading
software are emphasized.
P.E.: Physical fitness and skill development are emphasized along with group games, cooperation, and good
sportsmanship. Students in Grades 1-8 participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Program.

singing confidence, and instruments such as recorder, violin, clarinet, flute are offered in age-appropriate classes. Middle
school students may choose to participate in Praise Band, Concert Band or Handbells as an elective.
Visual and Performing Arts: Music and Performing Arts emphasize the development of coordination and gross motor
skills so that students learn how to express themselves through physical movement, theater, and drama. All students will
participate in music along with the visual arts.
Middle School Electives: Middle School students have the opportunity to individualize their schedule by selecting
various courses that include Handbells, Praise Band, Concert Band, Art, Drama, Spanish, and Study Skills etc. With
input from the teachers, the Principal will make the final decision regarding class placement. Grade point average,
citizenship grades, and grade level seniority will be taken into consideration when assigning classes. Parent approval
by signature for elective selections is required. Elective choices are an annual commitment. Changes will typically not
be made mid-year.
Spanish: Spanish is offered to all students in K-5 twice a week and to Middle School students as an elective class. This
class is taught through auditory, visual, and hands-on activities, and includes a study of Spanish culture as well as
language.
DANCES
There will be two to three dances throughout the school year for Middle School students (Grades 6-8). Dances are typically held
after school from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Parents are invited to chaperone.
