Dear Mr. Justin Lewis:
The purpose of writing this letter is to inform you of the Higher Order Concerns that I included
in my resume.
High Order Concerns are the important content of a document that one needs to be included,
organized, and made professional in any form of technical communication. I will be discussing
how I used Focus and Purpose; Audience; Organization and Document Design; Development
into my resume to construct a well written document that any employer will be impressed when
reading.
Focus and Purpose: When writing my resume my focus was to write all my skills and
qualifications in a clear and organized manner to convey to my audience that I am an eligible
candidate for any position. I clearly stated my interest of employment in the Environmental
Planning Group and briefly mentioned my skills in the Objective.
Audience: My audience was the employer of the Environmental Planning Group, because of this
I included my volunteer work that highlights my teamwork skills, experience with working in
my field of study, and the ability to organize others to obtain a common goal.
Organization and Document Design: I organized my resume by sections that are labeled as
Education, Work Experience, and Volunteer Work. I choose to put the Education section first
because it shows the employer my future goal in receiving my degree in Wildlife Ecology and a
minor in Environmental Science. Then followed was my Work Experience section that is
comprised of my recent jobs that are very diverse. This informs the employer of my skills of
being adaptable, a fast learner, personable, able to work with others, and that I can handle time
limits. Finally, my Volunteer Work that highlights my experience of working in my field of study

at Valle de Oro Wildlife Refuge and that I will continue to gather experience in more volunteer
work or employment.
Development: Each work experience I informed the employer the dates I started and ended the
location and name of the establishment in bold letters. Below I described in detail the mission
statement of my previous jobs. I made certain things bold and stand out more to catch the eye of
the audience. Also to separate the sections throughout the document so it's reader-centered.
Following the HOC's in any technical communication document will help you as a writer simply
convey your information to your audience in an organized, concise manner while still making
sure you include the important aspects.

Sincerely,

Alexa Davis
