Chapter 4
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter deals with the presentation of the data of the study. These data were
analyzed and interpreted in response to the problem of the study.

Participants
Data was gathered from 40 respondents. Of the 40 respondents, 28 (70%) were
female and 12 (30%) were male (See Figure 2). This implies that the sampling method used
is randomly chosen.

Causes of Stress of the Respondents


40 respondents were asked to determine any cause/s of their stress. It is revealed in
Figure 3 the different causes of stress of the respondents in both grade level and strand in the
school. For the Requirements, 37 of the respondents said that this is the cause of their stress,
27 for the examination, 24 for the financial, 16 said that the cause of their stress is also with
their fellow students, 9 for the parents, 7 for the siblings, 5 for the teachers, and 2 said
others.

Impact of Stress to the Academic Performance of the Respondents


A questionnaire (see Appendix B) was given to the learners and was self-
administered. Their responses were analyzed statistically and presented in a form of tables.
For the tabling of the results the respondents were asked to indicate their responses by means
of ‘strongly disagree’, ‘disagree’, ‘neither disagree nor agree’, ‘agree’ or ‘strongly agree’.
‘Strongly disagree’ and ‘disagree’ were grouped as positive responses while ‘agree’ and
‘strongly agree’ were grouped as negative responses.

Negative responses were received in respect of the following: I feel that the
assignments and projects given by some teachers are too hard (13), Some teachers provide

exams (16), I often face problems as how to share work with my classmates when some

The learners were uncertain about the following aspects: I feel that the assignments
and projects given by some teachers are too hard (22), Some teachers provide too much data
