Care Control Clarify Challenge Captivate Confer Consolidate

Yes Maybe No

What areas are your strengths?

My areas of strength were in control, challenge, and consolidate. The graph shows that I
received the most “yes” responses for those areas.

How do you display these strengths in class?

The strengths that I display are control, challenge and consolidate according to my second-grade
students. I display control by helping the students know what they need to be doing. I also display this
by demonstrating authority when students are listening and doing what I ask during lessons. I create
challenge by expecting students to demonstrate their best work. I also do this by asking students
thought provoking questions to help students demonstrate their ability to think constructively. Another
strength of mine that I present to my students is consolidation. I do this by telling students how they are
doing in their learning so that the students can better understand and work on their areas of weakness. I
also explain cross content connections to help students in other subjects.

What area(s) are weaker for you?

Areas that were weaker for me were care and captivate. My main weakness in care was the
question that asked students if I ask them about their feelings. In captivate, the students didn’t think
that I made class that interesting. The students also felt that what they are learning is not related to
their lives.

What can you do to grow in these areas?

To grow in my areas in weakness, there are many things that I can do. To grow in the care
section, I can ask students about their feelings towards certain topics. I can also ask students about what
is wrong if the child seems to be acting off-task when they are normally a child that pays close attention.
It is important to make sure that students are able to learn the material, which they won’t be very
successful in doing if their basic needs and care aren’t being met. Though, my students did think that I
cared about them and that I was nice to them. Another weakness was captivating, which I can improve
by making class more interesting. I can pose more interesting ideas in my lessons so that the students
want to learn more about the subject. I can also make more connections to the students’ real lives by
providing more examples.
