4th Grade Update

Dear Families,
We had a fantastic week in 4th grade filled with lots of learning! Every week I see so much
growth and am proud of all that we have accomplished. Hard to believe that our first Trimester
will be over soon!
Learning Targets

Reading-

I can use empathy for characters to make predictions.

I can step outside of the story to grow ideas about
the characters.

Math-

I can use the Algebraic model to multiply 1 digit by 2
digits.

I can multiply 1 digit by 2 digits using the Traditional
method.

I can use strategies to multiply 1 digit by 3.

I can solve word problems using strategies.

Writing-

I can generate realistic fiction story ideas.

I can create problems and solutions for my realistic
fiction story.

I can create characters with internal and external
characteristics.

Science-

I can use magnets to tell which objects attract or
repel.

Ask your child about



To help avoid "What did you learn at school this
week?" "Nothing" conversations ;)

-What is the character, Willie Mae, like in the book
Tiger Rising? How is she different from Rob?

-What things were attracted to and repellant from
the magnets?

-Which method do you like best for multiplying bigger
numbers (area method, expanded notation method,
algebraic method, or traditional)?

-What is one of your realistic fiction story ideas?

Conference Slips - Went home on
Friday. They need to be signed and
returned by Thursday, Oct. 29

Weekly Progress Report- Should
have come home with your student on
Friday. You will find a note from me
on the back. These forms should be
signed and returned on Mondays.

Spelling- No spelling this week, as we
have a short week

Parents are welcome to join us for
any of the activities of the day. It is
hard to pinpoint when activities will
be. We will be doing them as time
allows throughout the entire day. We
do have special at the end of the day
and ask that students not

leave early out of respect for the
specialist teachers.
