G235: Critical Perspectives in Media: Q1b) Theoretical Evaluation of Production Essay Planning Q1b

)
Intro    Define concept (use one of the definitions) Answer statement (so far seems to focus in cultural experience*). Tell the examiner what you produced and that the concept of X and statement will be discussed through an evaluation of research and choices made at pre, production and post production.

Pre-Production  What genre conventions/narratives and narrative conventions/representations/target audiences/use of media language did you find in the texts that you researched. This may include a discussion of the context in which your product would be consumed by audiences. Link to theory – how do these conventions/ideas link to the product you wanted to plan? Could link to audience feedback – what did your focus group tell you about your initial ideas in terms of whether the product you wanted to produce was meeting convention/right for target audience. Link to question.

 

Production and Post Production  What decisions did you make at the stage of production to use/challenge genre conventions/narratives and narrative conventions/representations OR to target audiences OR as a discussion of the media language in your product. What decisions did you make at the stage of post production to use/challenge genre conventions/narratives and narrative conventions/representations OR to target audiences OR as a discussion of the media language in your product. Link to theory! Link to the question statement.

 

Conclusion   Round up answer to statement. *Cultural experiences links to the idea of ‘situated culture’ (personal media consumption, small scale communications and interactions we have on a day to day basis) a part of mass/niche media so you must make sure that you offer a consideration of the state of the current media ecosystem and the way in which texts are now consumed by audiences (McDougall, 2009) and the texts that audiences will already have experienced, which links to postmodernism and feminist, Marxist, pluralist theories. Detail any further feedback on your productions in terms of the concept being discussed.
