PROJECT OVERVIEW
Marketing is a powerful tool used to promote media products prior to their release and can have a great
impact on the overall success of a product. You need to ensure you make the rights decisions throughout
the production process in order to attract an audience.

Music Promotion is just one example of how important marketing is in the industry. Music Videos are the
most popular videos on YouTube, with the current highest viewed Music video just surpassing 10 billion
views and counting. Furthermore, the majority of the world’s population are now avid users of at least one
social media channel, which means the importance of interactive media as a tool for promoting products is
more crucial now than ever. It will be extremely beneficial to learn how to utilise online platforms and their
tools to support a successful marketing campaign.

The best way for you to learn how to create a successful marketing campaign is by producing your own
marketing materials for a specific music artist.

WHAT ARE YOU BEING ASKED TO DO?

In groups you must develop, plan and produce a promotion package for an upcoming or existing artist of
your choice. You will create a range of marketing materials typically used to promote music content
including a Music video, a Digipak cover and 2 social media campaigns.

evidenced on your online journal and from observations by your tutors in class. You will be assessed on
four areas of criteria: Context, Research, Practical Skills and Reflection and Evaluation.
