Equipment

1. Measuring tape: Used to measure the depth, length, and width of the channel.

2. Ruler: Used as a bench mark to get the value of the depth of the channel.

3. Levelling tube: Used to measure the different between the two points (starting point and end
point) of the channel.

4. Liquid:-

Used to mark the level on the leveling tube.

5. Rope: Used to obtain the value of the perimeter of the channel.

Method
Water levelling tube
A transparent tube that is filled with water. The water at the two ends will always be
level.
If the tube is open to air at both side, the water in the tube will flow until it is has a
constant pressure throughout.

The water will flow from the height end to the lower end until it is at equal levels thus
having a constant pressure throughout.

Procedure of work
1) Observation of project location.
2) Identified all the equipment that will be used for the channel.
3) Measured the channel width. (reading obtained 0.305m)

4) Measured the channel length. (reading obtained 3m)

5) By using water levelling tube method, assumed 2cm drop from upper level for the two
points (upstream and downstream). Thus, we obtained the gradient of the two points
(upstream and downstream).

6. After gradient obtained, we calculated the value of slope by using the formula
(So =y2 y1 / L).
7. After value of slope of the channel obtained, we measured the depth
for upstream, middlestream, and downstream

Upstream, y =0.296m

Middlestream, y = 0.3m

Downstream, y = 0.305m

8. By using a rope, we obtained the perimeter value of the channel.

(Reading obtained 0.74m).
