Comparative Performance Analysis of AODV and DSR Routing Protocols in MANET
Abstract:
1. INTRODUCTION
Highlight MANETs are self-configuring multi hop
network where the structure of the network [2] changes
dynamically due to the mobility of host nodes. Such
networks are used in short range transmission like
Bluetooth (~10 m), military war [9], personal are
networking like mobile phones, laptop, mobile vehicular
communication, mining operation, civilian environment
like taxi cab, meeting rooms, sports stadium, emergency
search-n-rescue operations etc.
Some of the restrictions of the wireless networks are
packet loss due to transmission errors, variable capacity
links, limited communication bandwidth, frequent
disconnections, and broadcast nature of the
communications, dynamically changing topologies or
routes. Due to the above characteristics of MANET, usual
fixed network routing schemes like Link State routing,
Distance Vector routing algorithm are not effective. The
goal of routing algorithms is to provide short routes,
stable routes and decrease routing related overheads.
The objective of this paper is to perform a comparative
study of two MANET routing protocols namely DSR
(Dynamic Source Routing Protocol) and AODV (Ad Hoc
On-demand Distance Vector) on various parameters.
The rest of the paper is organized as follows: Section 2
describes an idea of both routing protocols, Section 3
deals with the comparison of both routing protocols on
various parameters such as packet delivery ratio, average
end-to-end delay, Throughput and Normalized routing
