What do you See?

Two Faces and a Vase

This is a visual demonstration of a paradigm shift.
What is Leadership?
Leadership is…

Achieving a goal, result or an outcome

through others
How Do You Achieve These
Goals/ Results/ Outcomes?

The Stick (Compulsive)

The Carrot (Persuasive) Approach
Approach
The Carrot (Persuasive)
Approach

The carrot approach is when

someone is nice to you to get
out of you what they want.

This is manipulation, doing

something for someone to
develop a feeling of obligation
for the other person.
The Stick (Compulsive)
Approach
The stick approach uses rank,
position and sometimes even
physical force to get things
done.

This approach is usually less

Whom Will You Work For
Willingly?
This same question has been asked of thousands of
people from all kinds of ethnic back grounds.

In essence the response was the same in every

case.

The difference btw the boss that you

would be willing to work for and the boss
that you have to work for is not in their
behavior but in their INTENT
INTENT IS INTUITIVE

The difference between a “have too” and a

“want too” boss is not in
the behavior but in the

Positional Power…

gives you people who do what you tell them to do because

they have too, not because they want too
Care and Growth…

Is the legitimate
relationship of
power.
This means that
the people give
you the permission
to tell them what
to do and they will
willingly comply.
What Yields a Surplus?

When two people are in a relationship where one’s only interest is to get
as much out of a relationship as possible and the other is to give as little
as possible… there is no Surplus.

But when we create a culture of contribution of service where both parties

are concerned with what they can give unconditionally, we are then left
with a surplus.

What do you think your results will look like if you have a team of people
who do their jobs because they have too vs because they want too?
The Care and Growth Model

Cultivating a culture where people

give more than what they take
creates a positive effect on your
bottom line.

The care and growth model has been

tested in a variety of industries i.e.
Mining, manufacturing, IT, Financial
services, hospitality, resulting in
improved efficiencies, quality in
output, bottom line results very
positive.

But this approach is

not a silver bullet, it is
not just a once off
intervention, but an
ongoing awareness of
how we treat our
people and what our
Intent is
How to…

Increase our bottom line
