What You
Learned

I learned about sustainable building

I researched sustainable buildings effects on the environment and current
practices and techniques to build more environmentally friendly homes.
My mentor is Sean Mcdonald, an owner and Carpenter at Blue Ridge Tiny
Homes
For my project I built a freestanding carport
- Designed my project
- Planned rentals for necessary tools
- Sourced all materials.
- Learned how to price a bid for my job.
- Completed my finished building
I met with my mentor for a total of twenty and a half hours
7/25/15- Me and Sean spent three hours designing the project and selecting
possible materials.
7/27/15- Spent all day setting foundation, buying materials, and setting
posts.
8/3/15- Worked with Sean all day on a similar project to mine as part of
our work trade. Practices using power tool, bidding for a job, and learning
how to create rafters.
8/14/15- Spent three hours setting lap bands around set beams and bolting
all beams into place in preparation of rafters and the roof.
Overall I spent over 40 hours on my project. From the first design stage I
worked during weekends to push the project forward in many increments
For my physical part of my presentation, I am showing the fasteners and
bolts used in construction and photos from during the building process
I learned a lot about what goes into a building a structure and many pieces
related to design and physical carpentry
