Subject: Technology (Mandatory) - Timber Class: 8 DTD4 AJO Date: Monday 3 rd June, 2013 Lesson No. Period: 4 Time allocated: 12:04- 12:56 Room: T7 Unit/Module: Hobby Box Lesson Focus : Theory- Veneer Lesson Overview: In this lesson students will continue to learn about aspects of sketching in their communication of their final design drawing. They will focus on what makes an appropriate design for their marquetry project and the importance and impact of factors affecting design. They will look at a suitability of a design in relation to their practical ability as determined by the quality of their completed coasters and their personal evaluations and reflections. If they complete this activity they will go on with their timber research activities on one note (that they did with Miss Hogan on Thursday in period 5 & 6) Outcomes to be addressed: - 4.3.1 applies a broad range of contemporary and appropriate tools, materials and techniques with competence in the development of design projects
- 4.1.2 describes factors influencing design in the areas of study of built environments, products, and information and communications Outcome - Students learn about Students learn to: 4.3.1 MATERIALS - Characteristics and properties of timber and timber products
TOOLS - Specific tools related to timber technologies - The function, selection and correct use of a range of contemporary tools used for : o Marking out and measuring - Identify, select and use appropriate materials for a design project - Select and correctly use tools for timber technology 4.1.2 - Factors affecting design o Function o Aesthetics o Resource availability o Physical and material properties - Examine factors affecting design in the area of products - Describe the factors affecting design CROSS CURRICULUM FOCUS: Information & Communication Technologies (ICT), Work Employment & Enterprise Aboriginal & Indigenous Civics And Citizenship Difference And Diversity Environment Gender Other KEY COMPETENCIES: Literacy Numeracy Multicultural Resources Required: - Whiteboard markers - Students blue folders and booklets o Activity 1:- page 7.
