We aim to support all our employees in maintaining a


Healthy and Safe Environment.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has a dedicated
Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Department who work
alongside managers to advise and support the workforce in all
aspects of Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare. The
Department has three main functions;
Occupational Health, Health and Safety and Welfare.

Health Screening and Surveillance
Sickness Absence Monitoring
Management Referrals to the Occupational Health
Physician
Referrals to the Occupational Health Adviser
Counselling
Health Education and Promotion
Advice on Health matters related to Work or
Lifestyle
Advice to Management, Health and Safety
Committees and other official representatives

Development of Health and Safety
Policies, Procedures and Initiatives
Provide Health and Safety Advice
Considering and recommendations
regarding Health and Safety Training
needs
Review, monitor and audit the Health
and Safety arrangements
Post Accident/Incident Assessment
and Advice

The highest degree of physical, mental and


social well-being of workers in all occupations.

According to WHO (1995), occupational safety and


health can be defined as a multidisciplinary activity
aiming at:
a. Protection and promotion of the health of workers
by eliminating occupational factors and conditions
hazardous to health and safety at work
b. Enhancement of physical, mental and social wellbeing of workers and support for the development
and maintenance of their working capacity, as well
as professional and social development at work
c. Development and promotion of sustainable work
environments and work organizations History
