ABOUT CNU
CNU is a prestigious state institution with the feel of a private
institution. President Paul Trible has transformed this school
from a commuter college to a competitive state institution. CNU
residential neighborhoods are ranked number five in the nation
for best places to live on campus. The impeccable campus and
student aairs department, works relentlessly to customize the
student experience.

About my Internship
With a supervisor transition within my first week I was really
worried about my experience at CNU. Although it was not what I
thought it would be I still gained a valuable experience overall.
Here are a few things I was able to do:
I spent the summer interviewing several candidates and
prepping myself for what it would be like to be on the other side
of the interview table.
I researched salaries of live-on sta in residence life across the

nation, compared benefits and salaries and presented a finalized

report that led to a salary increase for all residence life live-in
sta.
I formalized a key structure process for over 10 residence halls,
and implemented a strategic key coding method for the students
that was implemented across campus.
I worked with the two week long orientation process at CNU
known as Setting Sail.

The Office of
Residence Life
The office of Residence Life at
CNU supports 11 main residential
living areas. These housing
options range from first year
housing to third year housing, as
well as Greek housing. With a
three year live on requirement
CNU works exceptionally hard to
provide students with a
residential experience.

About Newport News

Living in Newport News this summer, was an extraordinary
experience. Christopher Newport University is located only five
minutes away from the nearest beach and surrounded by multiple
beaches within a twenty to thirty minute driving distance. I
fortunately had the experience of making a wonderful friend and
exploring many of those beaches, great places to eat, fabulous
shopping centers, and a lot of live out door music this summer.
The location always has something to do and is only an hour from
Virginia Beach.

Residence Life Mission

Residence Life is dedicated to
serving residential students and
developing a safe and inclusive
living-learning community that
supports the academic mission of
the University. CNU Residence
Life seeks to enhance the cocurricular experience and to
facilitate the holistic growth of
students to prepare them to
pursue lives with meaning and
purpose and to become
responsible and contributing
members of society.
Currently the office of residence
life is staffed with seven
professional live -in staff and
three main office supporting staff.
This summer we had 21 student
staff members as well.
