1. Hail: pellets of frozen rain that fall in showers from


cumulonimbus clouds.
2. Cumulonimbus: a cloud forming a towering mass with a flat
base at fairly low altitude and often a flat top, as in
thunderstorms.
C. Big Idea
What is hail and how can it affect use.

IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
1. Teacher will ask students if they know what hail is.
2. Teacher will explain what hail actually is.
3. Teacher will show YouTube video 2 which explains how hail
forms.
B. Development
1. Teacher will describe how hail can be many different sizes
2. Teacher will ask students if they have any guesses as to how
big or small hail can be
3. Teacher will explain the hail measurement activity.
4. Students will receive worksheet
5. Students will get into pairs and go around the room to the
different stations where the objects that represent hail are.
6. Students will guess the diameter of the object in centimeters
and record it on worksheet.
7. Students will measure the object and record the actually length.
8. Students will do this for every station
C. Closure
1. Teacher will ask students if the objects were bigger or smaller
then they thought.
2. Teacher will show portion of youtube video 2.
3. Teacher will collect hail measurement worksheet.

D. Accommodations/Differentiation
1. To accommodate Billy, a student with a learning disability, he
will be seated at the front of the room and receive more help
from the teacher during the hail activity
