Robotics

Technology
Interest and
Support Survey
Purpose of the Survey:
To gauge the interest, support, and
application for robotics technologies
with a specification in electric motors.

Initial Hypotheses
1. Most people will indicate that they
have used objects with electric motors
before do not think that they are
important in their lives.
2. Not many people know of the
problem of Backdriving electric
motors. Additionally, most people do
not know about the solutions for
Backdriving motors.
3. Most people do not understand the
relevance and importance of robotic
mechanisms. Generally, people are
opposed to automation in the industry.

Survey Participants
The survey did not need a specific
target audience. The aim of the survey
was to see what a broad audience
thought about robotics therefore it
was not necessary to focus on a

specific group of people. 28 people

have completed the survey. These 28
people include many high school
students as well and a few
professionals.

Survey Questions
1. What is your age?

Survey Results

2. Are you male or female?

3. What is you education level?
4. How often do you use objects or
devices with electric motors?
5. Do you consider electric motors
important to your daily life?
6. Are you aware of the problem of
backdriving motors?
7. Are you aware of the efficient and
inefficient solutions to backdriving
motors?
8. Do you consider the field of robotics
important?
9. By 2025, what percent of current
jobs do you think will be automated
by robotics?
10. Do you support the use of robotics
to replace simple jobs?

Survey Method
SurveyMonkey was the platform used
to conduct the survey. This platform
was very effective due to its simple
formatting and detailed result
analysis.

Conclusion
The survey indicated that many
people used electric motors and

thought that the field of robotics was

important. While many people used
electric motors, they were not aware
of the issue with these motors
backdriving. Surprisingly, people were
very supportive of using robotics to
automate current jobs.
