SEAFOOD from Fraser Coast

waters will be given star treatment by renowned chef Josue
Josh Lopez at this years Hervey Bay Seafood Festival.
Mr Lopez works at the Gallery
of Modern Art (GOMA) Restaurant in Brisbane as executive
chef and uses fresh produce from
Hervey Bay in his cuisine.
His food philosophy is fresh,
contemporary and local with
his signature dishes using native
Australian produce like kangaroo, emu and the freshest seafood.
His extensive training in
Queensland and abroad has led
him to being awarded the title of
Citi Chef of the Year for 2016, and
he has also been awarded two
hats for the GOMA Restaurant
at the 2016 Brisbane Times Good

Food Guide Awards.

His demonstrations at the festival will share his skills and
show home cooks the best way to
cook Hervey Bay produce.
Since he last visited the Fraser
Coast last year, Mr Lopez and his
team created a dinner for the G20
leaders which took them six
months to organise and included
Hervey Bays very own scallops.
Festival co-ordinator Elaine
Lewthwaite said she was excited
to see people interact with Mr
Lopez and get great ideas on how
to cook seafood.
Having a high calibre chef at
the festival will allow fishermen
to connect with the chefs and it
will champion our products, she
said.
Hervey Bay Seafood Festival is
on Sunday, August 9.

THE Powerhouse Community Centre in Maryborough

will get a boost with a $5000
grant from Ergon Energys
Community Fund.
Energy Minister Mark Bailey said the centre would receive funding to replace their
inefficient and outdated
stage lighting system with
new, efficient LED technology.
The Powerhouse, the first
power station to supply electricity for Maryborough, is
now a community centre and
performance venue.
Energy-efficient lighting
will cut down costs and make
this centre an even better
local attraction, Mr Bailey
said.
Member for Maryborough
Bruce Saunders said schools
and
community
groups
would benefit from an updated historical centre.
Technology that is becoming more common in the live
performance industry is coming to Maryboroughs Powerhouse Community Centre,
showing how the past can
mix well with the future, he
said.
