When children learn to take responsibility for their belongings and routines it
transfers to their learning. Here are some things that are age appropriate for
grade one.

Monday Reading: Look at the fluency and expression checklist at the end of this
newsletter. What clues do you see in your reading books to guide your fluency and
expression? Reread your book focusing on fluency and expression.
Math: Calendar play. Take out a calendar and figure out how many days are there in the
month of November? How about the months of October and December? What do you
notice?
Tuesday Reading: Repeat Mondays suggestion.
Math: What is the date today? What will be the day and the date in 10 days from now?
Wednesday Reading: Repeat Mondays suggestion.
Math: How many more days until Deepavali? How many days until the Terry Fox run?
Thursday Reading: Repeat Mondays suggestion.
Math: Make up your own calendar problems and solve them.

Friday Reading
Poem Collection: Recite poems to friends and family. Use your best fluency and
expression, and presentation skills to wow them. Return the poem collection to school on
Monday.
