Fourth Grade
Mrs. Kolackis Class
October 3, 2014

ELA
Reading- This week in reading we are
working on Authors Craft in poetry and
in other texts. Figurative language,
grammar, rhyme patterns are just to
name a few.

Writing-This week we have created a

Writers Notebook. This is a place where

an individual thoughts, ideas, feelings and
even artifacts are placed. This notebook
will be used to generate writing topics as
well as provide an avenue where the
students can place their thoughts.
Reading Buddies: This Friday our Reading
Buddies came to our room where the 4th
graders showed off their
accomplishments.

Notes
Thank you for coming to Crossroads Open
House on Tuesday. The students were
excited to show you there classroom and
the different things that we do in class
every day. October is a very busy month
with many events in the works. Please look
at the calendar to plan accordingly. In
addition, I have many openings for
Mystery Reader, we are very flexible with
times and dates. Have a great weekend and
enjoy this cool Fall weather!
Thank You,
Mrs. Linda Kolacki

MATH-This week in math, the

students are continuing to work with
addition, subtraction, exact totals and
estimated amounts with large numbers
and multiple addends.
It is essential for your child to practice math
facts everyday (+,-, x, ). Math facts are the
building blocks of math!

Social Studies-This week in social

studies we visited the importance of
climate thought out the different
hemispheres and the way in which rivers
change the land.
Student Corner: Reading is as
awesome as your Birthday and October! You
should read all the time so then your brain
and you are ready for a reading. This week I
bought a hamster eraser from the book fair,
and before I opened it I realized it had only
one eye so I had to return it. The book fair is
awesome! Miranda J.
