BY: ALEXIS DEAN

Evolution of Movement
The Black Lives Matter movement began
immediately after the acquittal of George
Zimmerman after he shot and killed a 17year old boy named Trayvon Martin.
Patrisse Cullors began this movement as
she re-posted a friends post that had the
hash tag #blacklivesmatter, also having
two other ladies join her with the names
of Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza who
came together with this platform.

Movement Provoking
Violence
Many people are having concerns that the Black
Lives Matter movement is provoking unnecessary
violence against police officers. The main goal for
this movement is to draw attention to the fact
that there have been too many cases where
people of color are being shot and killed by white
police officers for unjustifiable reasons. Even
though this movement is for a good cause, many
people are taking it too far causing violence which
is concerning people all around the world of
whether this movement is a good cause or a bad
one.

Ferguson Effect
Many Americans are starting to
believe that there is a Ferguson
Effect meaning that there was a
spike in crime when this movement
was made against police violence,
which was proved to be a false belief.

Conservative Thoughts
Conservatives are beginning to have
opinions and thoughts of the real
tactics of the Black Lives Matter
movement. They are starting to
believe that this group has no
intentions of having a positive
outcome, and that they should be
labeled a hate group. A hate group is
an organization or movement that
are known to practice hatred,

Civil Rights Movement vs. Black

Lives Matter Movement
Americans are beginning to compare the Black Lives
Matter movement with the Civil Rights Movement,
explaining that Martin Luther King Jr. would be very
disappointed to hear that this movement for people of
color turning into something that it should not be
because Blacks are magnifying the problem.
Although people believed MLK Jr. would be
disappointed, what they fail to realize was that MLK Jr.
used the same strategy for his movement during the
20th century. He once wrote, so to dramatize the issue
so that it can no longer be ignored meaning, making
the situation bigger than it already is will help the
movement achieve its goals.

Campaign Zero
After the protest in Ferguson, Americans
have wanted to begin to have more influence
in politics in connection with the Black Lives
Matter movement which not only will focus
on racism in police departments, but also on
racism in courts. A 30-year old named
Brittany Packnett started this campaign,
called Campaign Zero. ). Packnett believes
that now that we have protested, the next
step is to influence the political process.
