Leader in Me
We will finish teaching the last habit, Habit 7 Sharpen the Saw. Sharpen the Saw focuses on having balance in your life
because Balance is Better! It is great to see the students using the 7 Habits as part of their daily language in the
classroom, as well as in the cafeteria and on the playground! Once all of the habits have been covered, teachers will
continue to review and practice the habits through further direct instruction and teachable moments. Hopefully your
child is using the language at home and putting it into action. I know I tell my own children they need to Put First
Things First, especially when it comes to homework!

Helpful Hints:
Read a favorite story more than once. If your child asks for a story to be read again---READ IT AGAIN! The
repetition assists your child in gaining word recognition, story sequence, vocabulary, and story book language.
Focus on enjoyment. Choose stories that both of you will enjoy. Think about what your childs favorite things are or
what they like to do.
Read traditional tales and rhymes such as Little Red Riding Hood and Old Mother Hubbard as well as stories that
play with language such as the books by Dr. Seuss.
