Strategic Management (MNGT 425)

Type: Group / Individual
Each Student is required to submit the project on an individual or a group basis. Group projects
with more than 3 students will not be accepted.
Deadline for submission:
The last date for the submission of project is 15th December, 2015, after this date, no project will
be accepted. You have around 10 weeks to complete the project. You can submit the project
anytime from the 4th week of the semester.
Plagiarism:
You are not allowed to copy and paste any material from the internet or your fellow colleagues.
However, some amount of work maybe somewhat similar to the material available on the
website but I still recommend writing it in your own words to make it a genuine study. Any
assignment received which is copied in excess of 15-20 % would be returned for re-writing.
However, any such assignment received by the deadline would be rejected.
Marks:
The Project carries 20 marks in total.

Project Topic:
Strategic Analysis of an Emirati / MNC Organization
You are required to submit a strategic analysis of a local organization, Public or private or MNC,
using ANY ONE ANALYSIS
a. SWOT Analysis and Competitive analysis using Porters five forces model. OR
b. PESTEL Analysis and Competitive analysis using Porters five forces model OR
c. Balance Score Card and Competitive analysis using Porters five forces model
The organization has to be an established renowned name. If you are employed or were
previously employed at an organization, you are encouraged to produce the analysis of the same
organization (Please mention if you were employed at the same organization)
Required areas in the analysis:
The analysis should cover four main areas

Introduction and Overview of the organization

Vision, Mission and Values of the Organization
Your Chosen analysis
Your personal recommendations on what should be done to improve on the weakness and
overcome / face the threats.

1. Introduction and Overview of the organization:

This part should not cover more than 10% of your project.
It should cover areas like:
how long the organization has been operational
What exactly does it do? Which sector does it belong to? What are the products of the
organization?
Number of employees, Departments of the organization
A little history on how the organization was established (optional)

2. Vision, Mission and Values of the organization:

This area should cover up to 25% of your project.
It should cover areas like:
What is the exact vision of the organization and what it means?
Mission of the organization and what it means to the employees
What values are followed by the organization?
3. SWOT OR PESTLE OR BALANCE SCORE Card Analysis
This area should cover 25% of your project.

It should include:
Provide 2 bullet points for each of the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
4. Competitive Analysis of the organization
this area should cover 25% of your project.
It should include:
Buyer power
Supplier power
Competitive rivalry
Threat of substitution
Threat of new entry
5. Your Personal Recommendations / Conclusions:
This area should be 15% of your project. I believe you all need to work the hardest on
this since this part of the project will show me how much hard work each one of you has
invested in it.
It should cover areas like
-What are the possible solutions to the problem area?
-Which solutions should be implemented?
-Will the offered solution help in achieving the goals of the organization?
Minimum size of the Case Study:
The minimum size of the case study should be Six A-4 size pages. The maximum font size is 12.
There should be no line spacing and do not leave too many blank lines in between paragraphs or
headings.
Required Type of Submission: Soft Copy
You are required to submit a soft copy of your project through your UMS Portal. Hard copies or
hand written projects wont be accepted.
