Making an Interactive Test in Word

Open Word and select a blank document.


Click View in the menu bar and drag down to Toolbars. Slide over and
down to Forms. You should now see the Forms toolbar on your screen.

Drag it to a convenient location on your screen.

We will be making a three question test that will show three different
formats: fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, and drop-down menu.
Type the following text:
1. is the capital of Florida.
Place the cursor before the word is and click.
Click the

button [the Text Form Field] on the Forms toolbar. A gray

rectangle will appear.

Double click the gray rectangle to open the Text Form Field Options
window. In the Text Form Field Options window, make sure it says Regular
Text under Type. Beneath Default text, you can type a prompt for your
students. For example, Type your answer in the gray box.
Click on OK.

Place the cursor before the word is and click. Now you can press the
spacebar to add a space(s) between the gray rectangle and the rest of the
sentence. Place your cursor at the end of the sentence and press Return.
Question #2 will be a multiple choice question. Type the following:
2. 15 + 30 =

Press Return. On the Forms toolbar, click on the Check Box Form Field
and a check box will appear. Type your first answer. Press Return and click
the Check Box again. Type your answer. Repeat until you have all of your
choices typed.

If you double click on any of the boxes, the Check Box Form Field Options
window will open. You can change the size of the box or include and
automatic check in the box.

The last question on our test will have a drop-down menu that holds the
answers.
Type the following text:
3. Which is NOT a mammal?
Press Return. Click the Drop-Down Form Field button

Double click on the gray rectangle to open the Drop-Down Form Field
Options window.

In the box under Drop-down item, type the word horse. Click Add. Type
the word cat. Click Add. Type the word fish. Click Add. Click OK.
Lock your test by clicking on the Lock button

on the Forms toolbar.

Save your test. Quit Word. Reopen your test and try it out!
You can also give this test a password so students cant make changes. Go
to Tools and drag to Protect Document. Click on Forms. Type in a
password. Click OK.
