Observation Task 3: Mapping Environments:

The Learning
Environment
Focus: The learning environment.

Objective:
For student teachers to map the learning environment that exists in the
classroom including the layout of the seated area and learning centres.

Make a sketch of the classroom and identify the function of


each area.

Procedure:
Draw a map of the learning environment within the classroom and list the
functions of each of the activity areas. If possible take photographs of the
classroom including displays on the wall.

After the observation

Think about why the classroom layout is organized as it is. Ask


your MST why the desk/tables are arranged as they are and
the function of each area of the classroom.

Most of the classrooms in this school make the students desk in a


group because the teacher want the students to work together in
many activities. So, it is easy for students to discuss and work.
But the student desks are very big, and the classroom size is
small, so it is no space in the class to walk around it. They dont
have too much thing in the class; they only have a whiteboard for
.teaching, teacher table, small locker, and shelves
