**Be sure to include any strategies, resources, and/or technology that will be used to answer the question where
appropriate. You should have a technology tool integrated into each effective lesson component.**
Standard 1: Learning Purpose and Connections
What will the students be learning?
What are the big concepts for the lesson?
How will students know the objectives for the lesson? [Daily Objective]
How will students know the purpose and relevance of the lesson?
What resources/technology will help students make connections to previous learning? [Daily Review]
How will students receive feedback for their review?
How will students build their current knowledge?

How will the lesson be introduced? [Introduction]

The big concepts for this lesson is for students to be able to identify and understand Who and What Are Community
Helpers?
Students will know the objectives for the lesson by participating in a Zunal WebQuest that I have created and they are
going to be placed in small groups so students can help each other.
I will explain the purpose and relevance of the lesson through demonstration so the students will get an idea of how to
complete the task.
Each group will be given a handout of the Zunal Webquest I created and also a Tablet PC to help with research on
Community Helpers through educational apps that will be available on the Tablet.
Student feedback will be received by their classmates. After each group is finished with their Zunal Webquest, they will
need to present their findings to the class.
Students can build their current knowledge because it is a lesson that can be useful in the future to know how significant
Community Helpers are to our society.

The lesson will be introduced through a Power Point Presentation, where I will explain how each task needs to done and the
purpose of it.

Standard 2: Learning Tasks and Cognitive Demands

How are students supported in achieving the learning goals?
What Depth of Knowledge levels will students experience in the learning tasks?
How will students be supported to experience deeper learning? Address any SPED, Gifted or ELL students [Concept and Skill
Development and Application]
How will students be challenged to advance their thinking and skills? [Concept and Skill Development and Application]

The Depth of Knowledge levels that students will experience in the learning tasks are will be able to understand Who and
What are Community Helpers and how they contribute to our society. Student will also be able to learn from their peers
through participation, student-to-student interaction, and also learn how to use the Web for resources.
Students will be supported to experience deeper learning by working with a diverse group of different learning abilities.
Students will be challenged to advance their thinking and skills by learning reviewing the photos / list of Community
Helpers that I will have posted on the Whiteboard. It will be up for the groups to determine and match each Community
Helper to the correct description and photos.

Standard 3: Engagement Strategies and Discourse

How will students engage in interactive dialogue and/or discussions? [Guided/Independent/Group Practice]
How will students develop their skills in argumentation, explanation, and critique, using logic/evidence to support or refute a claim or
position?
How will students use multiple representations of concepts in their thinking? (i.e., graphic organizers, visuals, drawings, concept maps,
videos, simulations, data formats)
What opportunities will students have to use their personal experiences and knowledge to connect to the new concepts and skills?

How will students collaborate with each other?

Students will develop skills in argumentation, explanation, and critique, using logic/evidence to support or refute a claim or
position by presenting a report of their findings to the class with drawings and a short description of each Community
Helpers through the Digital Projector for the class to view on one big screen.
Students can use multiple representations of concepts in their thinking by using, visuals, drawings, YouTube videos, and
Microsoft Paint.
The opportunities that students will have to use their personal experiences and knowledge to connect the new concept and
skills is the lesson will help them understand why Community Helpers are important to society.

Standard 4: Student Understanding of and Responsibility for Learning

How will students reflect on their learning progress through structured metacognitive activities?
How will students reflect on the learning goals, the performance criteria and purpose of the lesson?

How will students share their progress?

How will students be supported in revising their learning strategies based on their progress?

Students will reflect on the learning goals, the performance criteria and purpose of the lesson by participating in a
TodaysMeet discussion online.
Students can share their progress by using Voki to create an avatar that will explain at least two things that they have
learned for the day.
Students will be supported in revising their learning strategies based on their progress by sharing ideas with the class on
how their found their research and findings.

Standard 5: Assessment Integrated into Instruction

How will student progress be assessed?
How were student pre-assessments or work samples used to plan this lesson?
What evidence of student learning will be generated during the lesson? (i.e., writing, one-to-one conferencing, discussions with peers,
instructional tasks)
How will students receive formative feedback?
How are instructional adjustments made based on student formative assessment results?
What homework will be issued to support the lesson. [Homework]
How will the lesson be closed? [Closure]
How will the lesson be reviewed? [Long-term Review]

I used the CCSD Social Studies Common Core Standard for Third Grade to plan this lesson.
The evidence of student learning that will be generated during the lesson are their writing skills, student-to-student
interaction, feedback from the class, discussion with peers, and basic knowledge of how to use an educational tool for
research.
Students will receive formative feedback from their classmates and also from closing discussion that I will add of what they
may have missed so they can better understand the topic(s). I will also use ClassDojo to award or deduct student
participation points to track progress.
Instructional adjustments will be made based on student formative assessment results through by reviewing my Rubric that
I have used to grade the group presentations.
The homework I will issue to support the lesson is a worksheet that has a pictures of Community Helpers and fill in the
blank sentences. Under each picture of the Community Helper students will need to write the name of the Community
Helper in the blank space provided. I will also include word banks to help them determine their answers.
I will use Exit Tix as a closure for my class. It is a great educational tool that allows me to track which students understood
todays lesson.

I will use Kahootz as a lesson review for my students. It is an engaging, fun and interactive educational game that test my
students knowledge and memory on what they have learned in the past or recently.
