What do you know about your subject already?

I understand sociological concepts behind who we are in a social context. As well as a
very rough understanding of a few philosophical reference points.
Why did you choose this subject over others? Why does it interest you?
The original subject I set out to explore was the effect that domestic violence has on the
development of children. After delving into this subject I came across some findings of
how it can affect the development of a childs identity which led me to the question
What really makes up our Identity? I found this topic to be much more substantial as I
begin to read some of Heideggers writings. This subject interests me because I have
thought a lot about who I am as a person but no what makes me who I am.
Write ten questions you want to find answers to
1. What Am I?
2. What is reality and why is it the way it is?
3. Who am I in in relation to the people around me?
4. Is how others view me who I am?
5. What does it mean to exist?
6. How many people are on the earth?
7. What does philosophy say I am?
8. Who does sociology say that I am?
9. Do experiences go into my Identity or is it something I am born with?
10. What is an Identity?
To find the answers to these questions I will look to what philosophical schools of
thought have to offer in regards to identity and sense of self as well as the sociological
studies on who we are in a sociological context.

If the results of your initial research are so numerous you need to narrow your
subject, what will you narrow it to?
I will find the sociological and philosophical concepts that I identify with the most.
If your preliminary research turns up very little information, in what way will you
broaden your subject to open up more research findings?
I dont think it would but I could also include the psychological aspects of our identity.
Did your peer group come up with good ideas/questions/suggestions for you &
how will you use their suggestions?
Yes they came up with good suggestions regarding how to include Chris better. I will
implement their idea by using his story as an example of Heideggers theory of finding
ones authentic self.
