Ice Breaker
This is my first entering for the class, the third day from observing them. I talked to the teacher
that I want to introduce myself and get to know the kids from this class through an Ice-Breaker
activity. The Ice-Breaker activity help me to get to know them, to break the barriers between me
and them, and to show me their behavior that lead me to set new rules for them to help in my
lessons.
The activity was some interesting questions about the kids interests with multiple
choices. The choices were as colorful pictures that would attract them. I did also a PowerPoint
contained same questions and answer choices, for each slide there was one question, and the
chooses answer were mine, to let motivate kids to know my answers as well. I set those
questions based on my rules that will set in future for them. For example; (Who is your favorite
hero? Superman, Spiderman, or Batman?) I will collect their answers after the class and will who
were the most popular for the kids and will use as a hero in the class like: (Fold your arms like
superman, raise your hands like Spiderman, who will be today the superhero of the class?). These
kind of questions will help a lot through teaching them in next lessons.
I managed with my MST to use 15 min of her class for doing the activity, but when I began
till I finish it took from me the whole period class which was 50 min. The kids were unbelievable;
they dont listen at all. They just do what they want to do, playing around, complaining, do the
activity by their own, and not listening to my instructions. There were some students which were
so quiet and want to do the activity with me, but the others keeping disturbing us, this was so
sad, because they want to learn but the others to dont give them that chance.
I thought after this class, I going to set a very encouraged rules with rewarding using my
ice-breaker activity. While at the same time will set rough disciplines to stop their misbehavior.
