Course Title: Introductory Geographic Information Systems

Course Description:
The purpose of this programme is to teach the theory and practical components of a
Geographic Information System (GIS). This programme will introduce GIS and explain
the use of GIS in research, problem solving and decision-making. The programme
includes a strong practical component to strengthen the understanding of the theoretical
concepts. A student version of the software used will be supplied to each delegate. This
mainly distance learning course is an evaluated programme and will include compulsory
workshops and continuous assessments.

design a new GIS project;
acquire data from various sources;
build an integrated geodatabase;

Module 7: Visualisation and Map-making
