Body (50 min.):

Learning Activity #1: What is an introduction?
Introductions are really important because it is the first point of meeting someone. A good introduction gives you a
chance to make friends with someone new.
4 parts to introducing yourself!
The 4 Ss
Smile it is important that we smile when we are meeting someone new, it tells them that we are glad to meet them
and are paying attention to what they are saying.
Say Tell them your name Hello, my name is Ms. Thorlakson
Shake Shake their hand, this shows that you are happy to meet them.
Say Tell them that you enjoyed meeting them So great to meet you, ______
Demonstrate to the class with one of the students.
Lets remember what the four steps of meeting someone, lets say them together: Smile, Say, Shake, Say
Before we get started, who can remind me what we do when we hear the chimes?
Okay, now we will all practice our introductions. I will go around the classroom to meet each one of you, while I am
doing this, you can practice with the other people at your table, and GO!
Go around to each student and we will practice our introductions.

Learning Activity #2: Something important about yourself

Something else that we can do when we first meet someone is to tell them something important about ourselves!
Some things that this might include are: What sports we like to play, what music we listen to, what our favourite book
to read is, what we like to do with our families, but there are many more things that you can tell someone about
yourself.
You will all have a chance to tell Ms. Thorlakson something important about you, so we dont have to worry about that
right now, but she will tell you some important things about herself!
Slideshow and discussion
Now, as I showed you, two very important things to me are music and books. Would we like to read a story about
music that I really like?
Good! Lets all go over to the carpet!
Once over at the carpet, clearly discuss story time expectations with the students.
Now, we all sit with our legs crossed and hands to ourselves when we are reading a story.
When Ms. Thorlakson is reading a story, who is the only voice we should hear?
Thank you! So lets hear the story.
Read The Composer Is Dead
Learning Activity #3: Sentence about yourself
Okay, so lets all go back to our seats. Could the assistant pass out pencils to each table?
As they are getting the supplies, hand out their writing journals.
When we are writing, what will our writing look like? I want neat printing please, finger spaces between words,
capital I, maybe a period at the end?
Write stem on board for students Something about me is / Something I want Ms. Thorlakson to know about me
is
So I would like everyone to finish this sentence in your writing journals, I want to know something that is important
to who you are.
Can someone please tell me what I want?
Now can someone tell me where our sound level should be?
Great! We have 10 minutes (go and put it on the clock), Go!
As students are doing this, walk around and check on how their sentences are coming along.

Closure (5 min)

did to the class. If there is extra time, do a pair-share activity and have the students present their partner to the class.
