Assignments Guided Listening For each class you will have guided listening forms, such as today, where you will be required to take notes and answer the questions. These are for you to tell yourself what you will remember about the information presented in class. I will be looking at these to see how you are understanding the material, but these will not be for marks. These are to be kept in your duotang. Journals Over the course of the unit there will be 6 journals due, about one for every other class. You will have class time to work on these, but whatever is not completed during class time will be due for the next day. Each journal will have its own guiding question that you will be required to answer in the journal. The first 5 journals will need to be approx. one page, double spaced OR about two minutes of recorded video where you summarize the same information as a written journal. Each of these journals are for completion mark only, and are worth 4% each, totaling 20% of your mark. I will be looking at these and giving you feedback based on your writing/video. The last journal will need to be approx. two pages, double spaced OR about 4 minutes of recorded video where you summarize the same information as a written journal. This journal will be graded based on the same rubric as the first journals that we will go over in class. This journal will be worth 20% of your mark. Demonstrations
Name:____________________
Over the course of this unit, you will be required to do three
demonstrations. These demonstrations will be based on the material that we have covered that week. You would be able to use our class practice time to work on these, ask me questions, etc. to prepare. You will need to include the following: One verse and one chorus of a song selected or approved by Ms. Thorlakson, singing if you wish, spoken/mumbled text at least. A brief description (1 minute) of the social or historical background of this piece. Something interesting about the piece that you discovered in your research (hidden meaning behind the lyrics, interesting fact about the musician, interesting relation to what was going on contextually at the time). These demonstrations may be done in person during the last class time before it is due or outside of class time. These demonstrations may also be done by video recording, provided that all the required aspects are included. They will be due, at the latest, 5pm on Saturday of the week it was assigned. These demonstrations will be graded on a rubric that will be discussed during class. Each demonstration will be work 20% of your mark, totaling 60% of your mark for this unit.
