Climate Change & Carbon Sequestration

What is global warming?

A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally
attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide,
CFCs, and other pollutants.
What is carbon sequestration?
A natural or artificial process by which carbon dioxide is removed from the
atmosphere and held in solid or liquid form.
What is the carbon cycle?
The series of processes by which carbon compounds are inter-converted in the
environment, involving the incorporation of carbon dioxide into living tissue by
photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead
organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels.

What is the greenhouse effect?

The process by which thermal radiation from a planetary surface is absorbed by

atmospheric greenhouse gases, and is re-radiated in all directions.
.
What is carbon dioxide?
A colourless, odorless, incombustible gas present in the atmosphere and is formed
during respiration, the decomposition and the combustion of organic compounds.
What is climate change?
A long-term change in the statistical distribution of weather pattern over periods of
time that range from decades to millions of years.
