SURVEY T1
E-SKILLS

FAISAL, PHAM KIM HOANG , ADISA RAMIC

Survey T1
This is a survey about students in the second year of IBM. This survey involved
30 people who are attending E-Skills. Most of the students took part in the survey
are Females (56,7%). The major part of the participants in the survey were local
students (83,3 %). The other participants were Erasmus students.

These Erasmus students are from Germany, Spain, Netherlands and the Republic
of Moldova. Four in five from the Erasmus students are staying for one semester
and only one in five is staying for 2 semesters. All Erasmus students are living in
Ghent and most of them (60 %) decided to living in a school provided dorm. The
remaining 40 % have opted for a private dorm.

A little bit more than half of the participants (51,9%) belief the relationship between
the Erasmus students and the local students is the same as last year. From the 48,1 %
who are thinking its not the same relationship as last semester, the greater part
considered that there is no bond or is worse than this semester. Four in five of the
participating students indicated, IBM it`s everything they expected.

The major part of the students (80 %) are planning to do the Masters degree. The rest
of the students are planning to work or travel. They want to work in typical business
departments like sales, management, consultancy and marketing.

24 of 30 people would like to improve the relationship between Erasmus and local
students. The remaining 6 students belief that it`s not applicable. Almost three in four
of the responding students represented the point of view that the Artevelde University
College didnt pay enough attention to the bonding between Erasmus and local
students. But only 16,7 % think it`s too late for the bonding between Erasmus and local
students. The most students share the same point of view and belief that more joint
activities and events would help to improve the relationship between Erasmus and local
students.

OUR PERSONAL OPINION

We are convinced that the relationship between Erasmus and local students was better
last semester. One reason might be that last semester everybody were new and the
most people didnt know each other. So it was easier to get in contact with other
students. This semester the most students found already friends and have their group.
Therefore it`s more difficult to establish contacts. Another reason is that they were
almost no joint activities or events. For example there is the community ESN Erasmus
student network. It`s a student organization which is organizing a many events in Ghent
(bowling, parties, ice skating etc.) and trips abroad as well (Amsterdam, Paris,
Rotterdam etc.). And most of the events and trips one can only join with the ESN
member card. So in most instances the Erasmus and local students stay among
themselves. Maybe in the future they will find a solution to solve this Problem. We
would very much appreciate it for the Erasmus students as well as for the local
students.
