We do not yet understand very well what all

the parts of the brain do or how they interact
with each other (Pg. 241)

I find it interesting that even with all the

technological advances we have in todays
society we are still truly unable to understand
the brain

Pretty much the whole brain may be

active (Pg. 241)

The entire brain has to work together to

process and understand music

No other stimulus comparably engages all

aspects of our mental apparatus.. (Pg.241)

Music is the only stimuli that engages the

entire brain

MRI are enabling neuroscientists to see

exactly what the brain is up to when it
processes music (Pg. 241)

With a relatively new technology (MRI) we are

able to see the bare minimum of how music
affects the brain.

MRI studies are something of a mixed

blessing (Pg. 241)

MRIs are both beneficial and a curse.

Although they allow you to see which parts of
the brain are active while music plays, we are
unable to understand what specifically
happens when music is heard.

Unlike language, say music has no

a few particular areas. (Pg. 241)
How on earth can the extraordinary
richness of human experience be summed
up by some bright spots on a brain map.
(Pg. 242)

This explains why MRIs are also a curse

Music as brain food (Pg. 248)

No other stimuli affect the whole brain like

music. This helps strengthen the brain. When
a guy is in the gym and he exercises he gets
stronger. In the same way music is a kind of
exercise for the brain and it helps the brain
think more critically.
