SYNOPSIS
A novel maximum power point tracking algorithm based on MPP locus has
been proposed and implemented in this project work, the proposed system works
on the principle of locus characterization of solar cell I-V curves at different
conditions of temperature and irradiation.
The algorithm checks the current operating point and compares it to
maximum power point locus and determines the maximum power operating point
by finding a value in a look up table. The values are determined by characteristics
of solar panel at different environmental conditions. The operating point is tracked
to the given reference point by altering duty cycles of a Buck-Boost converter.
The whole algorithm is developed and simulated in PSIM software for a
standalone battery charger unit and different loads. The algorithm is realized by using
ARDUINO UNO platform as a control unit and a standalone battery charging unit with
a Buck- Boost converter. The project deals with design and implementation of
proposed system.
