Multi-Camera Production Roles


You will be producing 3-4 interviews during your chat show. For each interview state who will be doing
which role. You must do EVERY role once during the show.

TASK 1: Define each of the following roles
Interviewer
Describe their job Reference your research
The interviewer is often the host of the show itself their aim is to find information from a guest or
to provide means for the guest to promote themselves or a product. An interview consists of a
number of questions each with different purposes. The interviewer needs to be well spoken
clear and focused in order to get the right information from the guest in order for the guest to
achieve the goals.

Which part of the studio do they work in? (ie control room, studio floor)
In front of the camera only.

What skills do they need to do their job well?


They need to be good looking or at least well presented, they need to be relatable, if
appropriate witty and most of all organized and focused

Director
Describe their job - Reference your research
The director is the team leader for the entire project, every decision has to go through the
director, they liase with crew members with graphic generators with every sub team leader in
order to make sure everything works out.

They work everywhere during the show they would be in the control room and would be able to
give further instructions from there

What skills do they need to do their job well?


Having good organisational skills
Good communication skills
Having a good creative mind with the ability to think outside the box

Camera Person
Describe their job - Reference your research
The Camera person operates the camera and is in charge of setting up and taking down. They
receive their orders from the control room and have to adjust the camera according to what
the director wants and what is required during the show.

Which part of the studio do they work in? (ie control room, studio floor)
They would work behind the camera,

What skills do they need to do their job well?


They need to be professionally trained in camera operation repairs and set up, they need to
know how to work the camera in order to fulfil the clients needs and know it full specifications
and limitation

Sound Mixing
Describe their job - Reference your research
Sound mixing means they are in charge of all the music microphone control and insert sounds
required for the show. They will sit behind the soundboard and check that the levels for each
microphone are even make sure there are no lose cables causing an electric buzz. They control the
whole sound of the show if an insert is needed they need to make sure it can be heard by the
viewers at home

What skills do they need to do their job well?


They need to be focused at all times and need to be ahead of the game so they know when

Vision Mixing
Describe their job - Reference your research
Vision mixers control everything the audience sees. They control what camera feed goes live And
when the insert is to be cued
they sit in the control and give cues to the camera operators and sound mixers.

This role requires this person to work behind the screen managing what can be seen by the
audience at home.
What skills do they need to do their job well?
They need to be organised and ahead of the game they need to know when everything needs to
mixed in, they need to know all of the inserts lengths and their content.

Graphics Generator
Describe their job - Reference your research
A graphics generator produces all of the graphics required from the show ranging from titles and
end credits to custom section introductions and overlays.

What skills do they need to do their job well?


The ability to work with a client and fulfil their needs, attention to detail and the ability to produce
anything that is required of them.

Lighting Desk
Describe their job - Reference your research
They are in charge of the lighting set up and packing away they have to rig the studio in order for it
to fulfil the clients needs. The control when the lights go up and when the lights go down and may
have to switch between various lighting stages for different portions of the show.

Which part of the studio do they work in? (ie control room, studio floor)
They will work behind the lighting desk In the control room

What skills do they need to do their job well?


Technical lighting skills, they need to know how to set up lights and hang them safely. They need to
know how to cater to the clients needs. During the show they need to be on top of their game and
aware of their cues they need to instantly put the lights up and down.

Floor Manager
Describe their job - Reference your research
The floor manager is in charge of the studio space. They work with all the production crews and
make sure they are working effectively and to time, they work with the director to make sure
everything is set up correctly.
