Life As We Knew It Social Awareness Project

In her novel, Life As We Knew It, Susan Beth Pfeffer
presents us with a world where basic human needs are
jeopardized and life must be altered in order to survive.
Miranda and the rest of the characters are faced with
sickening realizations of starvation, illness, inclement
weather and potential death. This novel helps us put in
to perspective the luxuries we take for granted and also
makes us aware of the problems that exist in our world
today.

For this project, I would like you to focus on issues that currently exist in our
world today and bring them to the forefront.

The Poster (10 points):

1. Select a photo from a magazine, book, website, etc. that represents a
current social issue or part of a larger issue. Choose a photo and social
issue that means something to you. If youre interested in helping the
homeless, choose a photo that would correlate. You should choose a
photo or social issue that stands out to you.
2. Write a caption to enhance your photo and impact your audience. Keep
in mind that the purpose of this project is to bring awareness to your
issue youve chosen. Your caption should be:
a. 1st person point of view (from someone or something in your
photo)
b. Thought-provoking
c. School appropriate
d. Send a clear message about the issue
e. ONE sentence long
f. Free of spelling and grammar mistakes
