lives.Freeadvertising,propagandaandinformationforall!

Alternativemessages
Visualcommunicationisequallyusedasasubculturalandgrassrootstoolforprotest,creating
identitiesorcreatingalternativewaysofcommunicating.

Theseimagescouldalsobeviewedaspersuasiveofformsofpropaganda,butwhatIfoundinteresting
aboutthem,isthattheyaretakingonemessageandputtingaspinonit.Theimagessortofcontradict
themselvesorcreateaparadox,whichgivesthematypeofalternativeview.

Ithinkinstillationartandperformanceartwouldprobablyalsofallunderthiscategory,astheyuse
differentvisualwaysofcommunicating.

everythingBUTnatural.ThisiswhyIalsoincludedthephotoshoptoolstoshowthatdespitealltheeffort
herhairstylistsandmakeupartisthavegonethrough,thefinalimagesstillgetphotoshoppedaswell.I
wasoriginallygoingtoonlyincludetheimages,butIlikedtheideaofhavingthewordsinthe
backgroundastheycreateagreatcontrasttohowthebeautyindustryislyingtous.Thebeautywords

arealsotheonlythingsonthepagethatareincolour.Thisissotheviewergetsdrawntothemfirst,
whichwillhopefullyallowthemtoreflectontheirownbeautystandardsandexpectations.

Chooseafilmanditscorrespondingposterandreflectonhowthetypography,image,colourand
compositionareusedtoreflectthenatureofthefilm.Howhastheaestheticofthemovingimage

Ithinktheychoseareallyiconicmomentfromthefilmtoplaceontheposter.Everyoneremembersthe
shadowcreepingslowlytowardsthecityandnowyouseethegiganticstructurethatiscreatingit.The
factthatthecitylookssosmallcomparedtotheshipisalsoagreatmetaphor.Thesheersizeofthe

spaceshipbringsawe,thesameawetheaudiencewillfeelwhenwatchingitonthebigscreen.Ilikethe
choiceofdarkerhues,asthismakesthewhitetextreallypop.Thewhitetextandchoiceoffontisalso
thesameaswhatwasusedinthetrailers.thisiscleverastheviewerrecognisesitandassociatesit
withtheexcitingmemoryofseeingthetrailerwhichwassuchagreatteaser.Whatisalsogreatabout
thisposter,isthatitisnotabouttheactors.Theseguysknewthatthisfilmwasgoingtoblowpeoples
minds,becauseitwassomethingnewanddifferent,sotheydidntneedtosellitwithbignames.
