How effective is the combination of

your main product and ancillary texts?

Introduction:
Throughout the production of our
coursework, it was a must to create
brand identity through our different
platforms of media we created. It
was an imperative to have a
professional looking collection of final
pieces, as we needed to express the
research we have done to produce
our work as well as signifying the
effort put into creating this work.

Brand Identity
It was extremely important to create a brand identity. With the song being named
Wildfire. It was clear to us to use the element of fire, which then we further developed
to the element theme. We used bold colours to engage our audience thoroughly
throughout. We chose the colour red obviously to connote the fire, however it also
signifies love, passion, anger, danger etc. which represents the song lyrics helping the
audience reflect on the meaning of the song. We also used a blood orange within the
music video, Digipak, and poster to soften the contrast between the red and black on all
mediums. We used a thin font on both the digipak and poster as this was more suited
against the background of the face. However, one weakness of trying to create an
identity was now the writing is difficult to see from afar. We also decided to use images
shot for our music video to represent our mis-en-scene as this is what I believe really is
our strength. We edited these shots to have a small effect that looks like fire sparking
through both the poster and digipak, this creates an identity as it further signifies the
fire and element theme. We also created a brand identity by creating a motif of the
extreme close up of the lips, this motif is used on the music video and the interior or the
digipak. This creates a brand identity as it becomes recognisable straight away.
Overall, we have used similar elements throughout all media platfroms, creating a brand
identity for our artist, expressing his song, and our work in a professional, sophisticated
manor, as well as making sure they are all mediums are linked in one way or another.

How our digipak sells to the audience

as well as it linking to the music
video
For the digipak design , we intended to
make its appearance unique for a younger
generation of 16-20 year olds whilst sticking
to the conventions of the product as well as
being well suited to our music video. We
included the colour scheme of the red,
orange and black as they are bold colours
that work well together, as well as signifying
the brand identity and showing off the
artist. As the front cover being so bold, we
decided to keep the rest of the digipak basic
but still intriguing to see, this makes it more
attractive, and brings more attention to the
front cover selling it to the audience. We
used a black background that we edited to
make it look like fire/water, further
connoting the elements. We also included
our motif behind the CD placement, to make
sure its uinique and linked to our music
video. We used the calming deep blue
colours to signify water, as well as using
typical conventions seen on a digipak,
selling to the audience that it is
professional, and original.

How will the poster sell to the

audience as well as linking to the
music video?

After creating our digipak, we needed to create similar for our poster.
We used the same colours of black, red and orange. Took a shot
straight out of our music video to link together. Used the same thin,
white font, creating a brand identity. This poster is basic, and
sophisticated making it look professional for an audience to see. As
well as this, the striking lightening streak across the middle further
signifies an identity as it used on both advertisement platforms, as
well as this it engages the audience through its bold and unique
image, taking over the entire poster, clearly connotes the importance,
making it eye-catching and successfully sells to the audience.

What elements of your advert and

digipak communicate the genre of the
music video and the style of the band?

Through research on our chosen artist; SBTRKT, I think his

most important feature of his career is his unknown nature.
Making it all about the music. I think through our work, we
have portrayed this well as there is no main artist, no main
model, no main element. This makes it become unknown to
the audience, as well as having lip-synching but not having
a face recreates an ambiguous character, further signifying
the importance of being unknown. We created abstract
images which further create a pop genre as they are bold,
bright, and eye catching, but then we used darker colours,
that can connote the indie genre. We have also used
images of a person, making it all about them, similar to
what pop and indie genre do, making sure the attention is
all on them the artist displaying our hybrid genre on our
digipak and poster.

Strengths and weaknesses

Music videoOverall I could not be happier with the turn out of my production work. I think it clearly shows
the effort and research and time put behind the creation. I think our strengths are the mis-enscene of each model, the costumes, make up etc. I also think the editing and the flow of each
shot really goes well together, and really makes it look professional, I think the editing shows
off what I can do, by creating a mirror shots, making two shots look as if they are one e.g.
When Rosie is swimming underwater through a long shot, then we have a cross dissolve to a
medium above the water shot of her coming up for air, I think however there are some
weaknesses, such as the shot of the wheat field I would prefer to have it look better, and make
the wheat sway slower, as well as this there is a slight grain on some of the fire shots, which I
think if I had more time I would try to shoot again.

AdvertI am happy with the sophistication of the advert, I think it looks professional, and I think it
matches very well with the artist and signifies well the genre of the music. I am happy with
what I have created, however, I do think the writing is very thin and the white makes it
difficult to read and see from afar which would be a problem as it wouldnt engage an
audience well.

DigipakI think we have multiple strengths of our digipak. I think it looks professional, as well as this
we have included our motif, which is vital to the promotion of our artist. I think we have been
very precise and took a lot of time with it, for example, even the writing stating each song is
the correct distance apart. However, similar to the advert, the writing is difficult to read on the
front cover.
