Evaluation Question media 1 In what ways does your

product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

By Natasha Elmes

What did you learn about what the conventions were of real music videos?
In music videos it is clear to see that the artist has to be shown a numeral amount of times due to the demand of the record company. From this we made sure we included many close ups of Louis to really show of the artist.

We also had high lighting that showed off our artist and the shots with myself in.

We also had a range of clean cut transition shots that most professional real music videos have which I think made our music video very professional, and we have a fade out at the end of our music video.

The conventions of a music genre that we havent used are more likely to be ones from a rocky genre or one from a dubstep song or other fast pacing songs. This is because our music video and the song that we used had a sad theme so use of fast shots would not have looked right.

What did you learn about real Digipak conventions and what digipak conventions have you included / not included and why?
From looking at other digipaks and analysing them, the artist has used many pictures of themselves throughout the digipak. The images that they have used are strong quality and relate to the album name and the image that they are trying to perceive.

We incorporated this into our digipak, and decided to use the image of our underwater shot, as this was the strongest shots throughout our video and would be what our video is remembered for. The underwater also as a hidden message to how my character in the video died so having the underwater shot as our digipak cover will make it recognisable.

The fonts and textual image we saw in other digipaks definitely influenced our ideas for our digipak. We wanted the font to flow well with our artist image and suit well with the pictures that we used. When looking at other digipaks they had plain simplistic fonts which I think draws in the audience more.

We only included shots of Louis on the inside of our digipak, and when looking at other digipaks its clear to see that most of them have the artist on the front, but our genre being indie and different this doesnt matter as much.

What did you learn about real Advert conventions and what advert conventions have you included / not included and why?
From looking at real adverts we can see that they have their album cover as their main picture that features on their advert. They then added the date of release and then added the extra information need. We took these ideas and added it into our own advert and made it unique for our artist. We kept our font consisted throughout the advert, like real adverts would do and kept it the same as the album and the recognizable font that its for our artist. We brightened our digipak advert, and used more of the picture and by making it brighter I think made the image more stronger and look better.
