As a group, we had created a questionnaire in order to receive feedback regarding our products from our target audience. We had asked an equal amount of each gender to fill it out, and from a variety of ages, so that we could get a wider range of opinions. However, we deliberately wanted the majority of our participants to be from the age of 14 to 20, as this is our main target audience.

Did the mise-en-scene within our video suit new wave genre?
12 10 8 6 4 2 0 yes no

This feedback shows that we have successfully created a conventional music video in terms of conforming to our chosen genre. The audience said that the colourful element found within the video is what makes our product suit the new wave genre, which suggests we were successful in our effort to include as many contrasting, bright colours to create a quirky style that is representative of our genre.

Do you think the digipack and magazine advert work well as a campaign?

7
6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Yes No

This informs us that we have successfully created synergy between our ancillary tasks, as the majority of the participants of our questionnaire agreed that they are a good combination. One of the participants answers included: because the artists signature was used clearly in both, and so was the image of the polaroids. We have used these images consistently as they are the elements that we most wanted the audience to take notice of from our ancillaries. However, the one participant that disagreed had given the reason that the different colours used in the CD album were not used for the magazine advert. This tells us that we should have more consistency with the use of colours in order to effectively create a campaign.

favourite shots within the music video

extreme long shots midshots tracking close ups close ups (to see of girls shot at of the of the settings) dancing the characters makeup beginning From this, it appears that the most popular shots within our music video are the close ups of the characters. We tried to incorporate many close ups so that the audience can identify with the characters (uses and gratifications theory), and so that they can understand their emotions, and therefore for them to further understand our narrative. This seems to be successful, as these shots seemed to have an effect on the audience the most.

Did the editing match the pace of the music?

Yes No

Throughout the construction stage of our coursework, we made sure to match the editing to the pace of the music. We emphasised this when we used fast-cutting for the fast parts of the song with the use of short cuts within the makeup scene. This feedback shows that this has been effective.

Do you think the narrative reflects the lyrics of the song well?

Yes No

We are happy with this feedback, as we had tried to match particular parts of our visuals to the lyrics of the song for example, when the lyrics say She cant keep up with the working crowd, we had created a library scene where the girl drops her folders.

Did you understand the narrative within the video?

8 6 4 2 0 Yes No

Although the majority of the audience felt they understood the narrative within our music video, there were a few people who felt otherwise. The reason for this may be because, as the audience mentioned earlier in the questionnaire, we did not make a clear difference between the dream and reality, which may have led to some confusion amongst the audience while watching our music video.

Was our use of green screen effective?

12 10 8 6 4 2 0 Yes No

We are happy with this result, as we had used green screen for the majority of the scenes within our music video and was a significant part of our product.

Quality and focus of the Fuzzy close up in Picnic Clearer understanding shots scene of the difference between dream and reality scenes

Nothing

From this, we understand that the part of our audience felt that there was no clear difference between the reality scenes and the dream sequences. Although we had heightened the colours within the dream picnic scene, we now understand that we could have applied a filter over the footage to create a more dream-like effect, so that the audience would be able to further understand the narrative within our video. Also, the large part of our audience informed us of the fuzzy and pixelated close up of the strawberries within the picnic scene. We had taken notice of this before presenting it to our audience; however, we could find no way to make the shot any clearer.

Everybody that filled out our questionnaire answered that our msuic video was quite conventional to the genre, as seen on the graph. Their reasons were mainly due to our use of saturated colours and the surreal settings we had created through the green screen backgrounds, informing us that our intentions to conform to our chosen genre were successful.

Possible improvements for our digipack

The largest improvement suggested for our digipack was to use a brighter background for each of the panes. We can understand this suggestion, as bright colours are a popular convention, and the black background we have used does not conform to this.

Possible improvements for our magazine advert

6 5 4 3 2 1 0 More colours Happier font More images of the artist More information regarding purchase of album Brighter background colour

The most popular suggestion for improvements towards our magazine advert was to use more colours. We are aware that our digipack appears to be more conventional to our chosen genre, as we have used a variety of bright and contrasting colours, and this audience feedback has made us realise that we have not applied as many colours to our magazine advert, and that it is therefore not as conventional as we would like it to be.
