Dear 6th grade Parent/Guardian,

This year Latin Academy Charter School will be implementing Family Life and Sexual Health curriculum (or F.L.A.S.H.)
for the 6th grade scholars. FLASH will be incorporated in 1 day/week during Art classes beginning on February 25 th,
2016.
F.L.A.S.H.is an evidence informed sexuality education program. Evidence - informed programs are medically accurate
and meet the criteria for effective sexual health education programs. A listing of the 17 criteria of effectiveness has been
attached. F.L.A.S.H. has demonstrated the ability to decrease the number of lifetime sexual partners among youth.
F.L.A.S.H. curriculum at Latin Academy Charter School consists of six (6) sessions as outline below:

Pre Test & Introduction/ Self Esteem

Friendship and Decision Making
Sexual Exploitation
Puberty 1 and 2
Reproductive Health 1 and 2
HIV/AIDS (Years 2, Day 1)/ Post-Test

F.L.A.S.H. presents abstinence and condom use as culturally accepted and effective ways to reduce risks for sexually

Georgia law permits parents or legal guardians to elect, in writing, that their children not receive sexuality education.
Please return this letter indicating in the box provided below if you WILL NOT allow your child to participate in
the instruction of these objectives or call Ms. Persley at 404-753-4050. If you WILL allow your child to receive this
instruction, you do not have to return this letter.
