Introduction

A domestic helper is a person who works within her employers household. Domestic helpers perform
various household services, which include cooking, cleaning, laundry, and taking care of children or elderly.
Their minimum wage is HK$4,010 per month. In Hong Kong, the population of domestic helpers is 320,000,
which is 4% of the total population of Hong Kong. 50% of them originate from the Philippines, 47% of them
originate from Thailand, and the rest originate from other countries. Domestic helpers receive free medical
treatment, food and accommodation during their employment.
