Dear Parent/Carer
National Science week and Homework Project Showcase
I am writing to invite you to a showcase of students homework projects that have been submitted as part
of their science course this year. These projects are set termly and allow students in Y7-Y9 to be
creative and to investigate in more detail, an area of science that they have been introduced to in
lessons.
Due to the exceptionally high standard of work being produced we have decided to use National Science
Week (11th-20th March 2016) to showcase selected pieces and award additional prizes to the finest
pieces of work. We would like to offer parents and carers the chance to show their support and see the
range of work that Armthorpe Academy students have produced. The prizes on offer include a trip to the
Big Bang Science fair at Doncaster racecourse.
The event will take place on Wednesday 16th March 2016, in the Youth Centre (accessed from the car
park outside the main reception) between 2.15 p.m and 2.45 p.m.
To ensure that all students have had a chance to enter their best project we have set an extra homework
this term for Y7 and Y8. Students in these two year groups are asked to produce a piece of science
work that links to any topic they have studied in science this year. The projects can be 3-D models,
written work, a poster or even videos/photo based. The only limitation is the students imagination. The
deadline to hand in their work to their teacher is in their science lesson on Friday 11th March 2016.
If they have questions or need advice then, as usual they should see their science teacher. A useful
website for students to get ideas for their project is www.sciencebuddies.org.
Can you please complete the reply slip below and return it to your childs science teacher. We hope to
see you on the 16th March 2016.
