Puzzle play with Sana

Sana, today we had an animal zoo puzzle laid out for you and your friends to play with. You
came up to me and said Its got lots of animals, Teacher and I said yes, it sure does Sana.
Where do you think they could be? and you replied saying in the zoo and started sharing
your personal stories of visiting a local zoo, Ka pai, Sana!
Not long after you had a good look at the animals, you started taking pieces of puzzle out and
you tried to fit them into its corresponding board cutouts. I described to you about the
different animals, what sound it makes, how it moves and what it feels like. At one stage, we
imitated the sound of the animal pieces you held in your hand. For example, with a lion, we
said Roar. I could tell by the great big smile on your face that you felt proud upon
completing the puzzle, well done Sana!
Sana, you displayed an interest in puzzles. You showed great problem solving skill as
you learn to turn puzzle pieces until they fit. You were being exposed to language
around this process and you were also recognising the different animals in our
environment. You showed great focus, engagement and perseverance to reach your goal,
well done, Sana!
Sana, perhaps next time we could explore different puzzles to develop and extend your
problem solving skills.
