Hannah Roberts presented on competency in assessment with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. She discussed collecting and organizing data to interpret information from clients, applying theoretical frameworks in interventions, and developing mutually agreed upon goals and objectives based on an assessment of client strengths and needs. Hannah described her experience observing a social worker on a home visit and helping a case manager develop goals for a client to regain custody of her children.

How have I used this
competency? I have prepared for action with individuals, families, groups and organizations by applying what I have learned within the classroom I also had the opportunity to go out on a home visit and observe what the social worker does and what particular frameworks are used (P.B. 7.19 &20). I was also able to assess what the clients strengths and limitations were, and how they might be able to resolve an issue through advocating for them and monitoring their progress. I went out with one of the case managers and helped them develop a mutually agreed on goals and objectives for the client to follow in order for her to obtain custody of her kids and her case to be closed (P.B. 7.21 & 22). This was very interesting, it appeared as though the parents begin seeing the reality of the situation once the case manager comes into play.
